What others said about us

There was excellent liaison and co-operation with local statutory authorities as evidenced by their feedback below.

'The Staff at The Stepping Stone went above and beyond the call of duty, they did excellent work not only managing the shelter but also taking on resettlement work and even finding our clients longer term accommodation, which I feel is tremendous. From our point of view the Stepping Stone

project gave us access to the heart of the rough sleeping problem in Reading.'

David Loveday, Acting Manager CAT Outreach Team

'The Stepping Stone shelter has been a roof over many vulnerable human beings heads.

When it closes a lot of 'forgotten' people will be affected. I think that this is very sad.'

Emma Wilkinson, Thames House, Reading.

'In order for a drug user to most effectively respond to treatment, accommodation is a vital issue

that needs to be resolved... Clients who are homeless are a very hard group to access,

because the night-shelter offers some stability in people's lives,

it makes it easier to access them and then do the required work effectively...

In our opinion the work with drug users staying at the night-shelter

will be drastically affected once the night-shelter is closed.

We at SMART CJS believe the Stepping Stone night-shelter is a valuable project and will be sadly missed.'
