Winter in Berlin

Having started the year in Berlin it was good to be back for the culmination of the Euro-Africa reconciliation conference.

“The most significant event I have ever been to"

The depth of repentance both felt and expressed was almost too much to bear.

Delegates at the EARP

It was also an opportunity to spend time with Nigel and Karen Rivers who have bought a guest house in North East Berlin

Their vision for a place of retreat and refreshment built around prayer and community is inspiring

I am very grateful to them for their hospitality

Sweden

It is always lovely to visit Sweden and despite the short days winter really is a great time of year

The atmosphere is wonderful

A chance to catch up with some shopping!

 Guaranteed snow

Lovely lights

Of course the justification for travelling was to visit friends and hopefully encourage them

And how’s that for a Christmas tree?

The highlight was staying with Christer and Kattis Aadland at “Dragudden” (above) just outside Stockholm.

The name literally means “dragover” and was a shortcut for the Viking longships into Stockholm. They dragged their ships overland.

Malc’s main excuse was to visit Helena in Orebro. For those who have followed the plot, Helena was one of our earliest Boiler Room team members. Seen left with boyfriend Erik.

Thanks to Charles, Lena, Karin, Krister, Andreas and Sandra.

Fancy a trip to Sweden?  Let me know – not that expensive!

Berlin

Back to Berlin in December to support Noel Richards and the team at the Olympic Stadium

It was also an opportunity to spend a few more days with Karen and Nigel and the other guys at Lindenhof, helping with the mammoth task of refurbishing the building.

Family

Fostering

Most of you will be aware that we have had Sarah with us now for over a year. In fact she came just before last Christmas. She has been a delight, although supporting her through two custody hearings and all the psychological and emotional harm being done to her has been very tiring.

Kristy (25) has had a good year, enjoying life and bringing a little sunshine into the lives of others.

Seen here in Bournemouth

Becky (now 30 ) is still living in Leyton in a flat which she has bought along with an old school friend. She works for the high street shop chain USC.

She continues to enjoy mountain walking. It keeps her fit for the London underground escalators.

Or is that the other way round?

Steve (28) is still not doing graphic design, but at least earning money!

In October he moved out of Brisbane Road to look after a house in Henley.

We hated to see him go.  It felt like we were pushing him out.

We miss having his happy smiley face around the house.  He has hopes of buying or sharing rent of a house of his own before too long.

Oh and just one small matter!

He has a new girlfriend - Thea

In October we acquired a new member of the family - PADDY

He's a rescue dog from Swansea.  We tease him that he's a failed Sheepdog.  He has boundless energy and at times it seems not a lot of brain.

I think it is fair to say he suffers from ADHD  -  "Attention Deficit Hyperactive Dog"

Weekend Break
We felt it would be really good to give Sarah (and ourselves) a bit of a treat and go to Paris for a weekend

It was a huge extravagance that we are still recovering from but was a lovely weekend

Going up the Eiffel tower with Sarah was absolutely freezing

Sarah decided that Paris has too many steps! It does seem that they are fixated on tunnels

The walkways between metro stations seem longer that the gaps between platforms!

Paris is lovely by day
Something else by night

Galleries Lafayette

by day and night is just gorgeous

Galleries Lafayette inside

That's not to mention the seven floors of clothes and Hi-Fi

None of us are quite sure about the hat, but boy do rabbits know something about insulation.

As we often say isn't evolution clever!

The French eh?

Vive La difference

Where could you go in England and find a complete roundabout coated in fake snow including all four corners and lit by changing coloured spotlights

Delightful

So what of 2006?

For Penny’s sake Malc may only go abroad once every two months and probably not until the spring as things went a little mad in November/December.

But where

Twice at least to Germany.         "Calling All Nations”  Berlin  - then possibly  Düsseldorf ?  /  Limburg ?

Twice to Ireland I hope - North and South.

Sweden at least once.

Brazil would be fantastic but involves serious dosh.

Africa beckons; The U.S. of A. is always possible; and then again there’s Canada!                   Oi veh!

So if you are praying for us, then what we really need is a second foster placement - urgently.
